Buying a home is one of the most significant decisions you’ll ever make, and I’m here to help guide you through it! Whether improving your lifestyle or maximizing asset appreciation is the driver for your purchase, my team and I are here to help you make a strategic move.

Consider Your Lifestyle

Location and layout are important in every buyer’s search. But how much have you considered your lifestyle? Of course, location matters, but this purchase is about more than your commute or a particular school zone. It’s about the pocket park where your kids can play after school. It’s the feeling you’ll get on the front porch Saturday morning. It’s the friendships you’ll make with neighbors on your street. 

Lifestyle is an important factor that’s often overlooked. But buying your home is more than buying an appreciable asset in a desirable location. It’s about the experiences you’ll have and the life you’ll build.

Can You Stay in The Home for 5 Years?

Inevitably, when my buyers think they’ve found “the one,” they’ll turn to me and ask, “Carolyn, what do you think?” I’ll usually answer their question with one of my own: “Can you stay in the home for 5 years?” If the answer is yes, their choice is usually solid. 

Our typical real estate cycle lasts about 10 years from top to bottom. If you can stay in the home for 5 years, time will help ensure against the probability that you bought at a high and sell at a low. Houston is also a steady-growth market. On average, we see about 3% price growth each year. So if you own your home for 5 years when you decide to sell, you should be able to cover any transaction costs and put that well-deserved equity in your pocket!

Look Beyond the Decor

The most exciting part of the home-buying process is the shopping! Floor plans, kitchen layouts, light fixtures, beautiful floors, and gorgeous bathrooms are exciting to every buyer. But I’m going to help you think like a dad. I’ll teach you about what to look for in a roof (shingle type matters!), how to determine the age of the HVAC, and how to tell if a foundation is in good shape. Of course, the way a home looks is important, but I want to help you feel confident that the structural and mechanical components of what you buy are in excellent shape.
